Bill Moyers Journal - Friday October 12

GPL MOYERS TALKERS MEET NEXT THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2007.

In the Glendale Central Library Learning Center. 7:00 PM.

From the Moyers Newsletter:

"The Muslim individual right now in the 21st century does not live with the same amount of difference that people in the United States, for example, live with. It's crucial for Muslim societies to cultivate difference in their midst. And that means critical differences - a real difference so that people could engage in solid meaningful debates - philosophical debates - and conversations. - Anouar Majid

This week on BILL MOYERS JOURNAL (KCET TV)

Could we see a repeat of the big stock market crash of ’29? Veteran market watcher Robert Kuttner and Wall Street insider William H. Donaldson give their read of the current economic landscape and discuss the risks of the deregulation of the financial industry. Donaldson was the 27th chairman of the SEC and is the former chairman and chief executive of the New York Stock Exchange, and Kuttner is co-founder and co-editor of THE AMERICAN PROSPECT magazine and was a longtime columnist for BUSINESS WEEK.

Bill Moyers speaks with novelist and essayist Anouar Majid, who talks about the necessity for dissent in his most recent book, A CALL FOR HERESY: why dissent is vital to Islam and America. Majid is a professor of English at University of New England.

A Bill Moyers essay on Doris Lessing, who just won the Nobel Prize for literature.
